It’s an interesting fact of life that as human beings we love to give advice, good or bad, the same can be said for our own personal health and wellbeing. It’s easy for us to suggest “take some time out for yourself” or, if someone hurts themselves to suggest “go and see a therapist or the doctor”. Yet we rarely take own advice!
During the summer season this year, I took my Bowen Clinic (Devon Bowen Clinic) to 4 festivals. After the success of practicing at one of Devon’s biggest end of season festival last year, I thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to spread the word of the Bowen Technique and advertise my clinic.
Over the four festivals I treated 223 people, distributed 2000 leaflets for my clinic, and spoke to over 1000 people about Bowen and how beneficial it can be for their health. I must add that the treatments I carried out were 15-minute taster treatments, with the option of adding another 15 minutes to help create a greater change for the time allocated.
The potential clientele I engaged with were from all over the country not just the local area, which was an added bonus as they took away the knowledge that there is a therapy out there that has a light touch and doesn’t hurt to have done.
Here’s the clincher, this was never about making money for me, this was about advertising, branding and giving people another option for pain relief, potential reversion to homeostasis for their body or just a time out for them.
One of the key fundamental points I took away from this year, was that to make yourself and your brand (clinic) seen, make people intrigued at what you have to offer. Talk to people, when they stop and look at what you are offering, engage with them and ensure that you have a 1-2-minute explanation of what Bowen is, nailed.... I said it a lot!
The bottom line here is that festivals are special, lots of people are from different walks of life that are willing to do and try things that they would not normally do. Embrace that…… hey if all else fails, go and watch some bands and enjoy yourself.
